SENIOR RESEARCHER - in Building and Energy System Modelling and Control

Our partner is a private non-profit applied research center providing companies involved in technological innovation processes with digital simulation methods and tools to invent and design more competitive products.

To support research activities in the field of "Energy-Efficient and Resilient Built Environment," they are currently seeking a senior engineer/researcher in Modeling and Control of Integrated Energy Systems in Buildings.


  • You will participate in the development of methodologies and tools for:

    • Sizing and renovating living spaces in response to climate change;

    • Designing and optimizing low-carbon footprint technologies integrated into the built environment;

    • Providing digital energy twins for user awareness, usage optimization, predictive maintenance, and self-consumption within energy communities.

  • You will contribute to cutting-edge research in the fields of energy systems and building modeling, machine learning, and predictive control, and develop solutions for real-world applications.

  • You will appropriately leverage existing software tools (open source) and develop new tools and methods to achieve the objectives.


This domain requires diverse expertise in:

  • Aerothermal CFD simulations;

  • Dynamic modeling of building energy;

  • Optimization, machine learning, and predictive control, closely interacting with the "Machine Learning for Modeling, Optimization, Data Extraction, Monitoring, and Control" group;

  • Backend development, web applications, interfaces with databases, and BIM/GIS environments.

Required qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in engineering or physics with a specialization in heat and mass transfer, or applied mathematics with a minimum of ⚠ years of experience in the mentioned areas;

  • Strong understanding of industry practices and challenges in energy systems and building, as well as related dynamic simulation frameworks such as Openstudio/Energy+;

  • Minimum of ⚠ years of practical experience in machine learning and control methodologies and tools (e.g., Neural Networks, Time Series Forecasting, MILP, Model Predictive Control);

  • Proficiency in French or English, both written and spoken, with passive understanding of the other language;

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Strong communication skills (written and oral).

Additional qualifications:

  • Strong programming skills in commonly used languages (e.g., Python, Modelica, MySQL, HTML, JavaScript, C++);

  • Basic knowledge and practical experience in BIM or GIS.

  • Basic knowledge of CFD is an advantage but not required for the position.
